Assignments

HEY! For this first assignment i created simple icons to represent
everyday things.  I personally think most things are better
when they're simple, they just look more clean.  My ice cream looks so
good it's shocking:) insert bad joke diddy lol.

Whoops! I accidentally  uploaded 2 of the same assignment! Anyway, for this assignment I created a color wheel. I grew up visiting the beach all the time, and clams with their beautiful shiny pearls inside are found in the water.
In this assignment, I mimicked Andy Warhol's style. In the top left corner, I used the complementary color scheme with purple and yellow. Over in the top right corner, I used the monochromatic red color scheme. If you move your eyes down to the bottom right corner, you will see the triad color scheme used with green, purple, and orange.  Finally, in the bottom right corner, I used the split complementary color scheme.

For this assignment, I used many different mystery/thriller movie posters behind the magnifying glass. This is probably my favorite assignment so far, because I really like the way it turned out. Although it was quite time consuming, I really enjoy the finished product.

This assignment relied heavily on layer masks. I imitated the style of Stephen  Kroninger in creating a page that would appear in a children's book. I love reading children's books even though I am way past that age because they are simple and almost always have a little humor thrown in.  I used to go to the beach a lot and the boardwalk was always full of venders selling all kinds of things.  Ice cream is what little kids dream about, so why not design a page of his wonderful experience from their perspective?

This was another one of my favorite assignments. I photo shopped myself in the picture with Cage the Elephant. They are on of my absolute favorite bands because they have a different approach to rock music, along with their mere stage presence.  I incorporated layer masks with my own picture of myself. This piece includes the principles balance and unity. Every person in this piece is in at least one line, and from a distance an almost "x" formation can be seen.

The objective was to take an image and use it as a type of stencil to create the image completely out of type. In this assignment, "See What I See", I took the creepy tree image, and added a layer on top. On the top layer, I created the outline and shades of the tree using type. The word I used was "creepy", the letters for the branches were "E", and the hollow part is a distorted "C".  I really wanted to get that halloween haunted feel, so I found a font that helped conveyed the feeling. I really like how the branches turned out, they really show off the tree. If i had a re-do, I would probably pick a more challenging design to further show off the type image.

In my 9th assignment,  using a grid are different designs for each font utilizing the principles repition, figure/ground, and balance. This was definitely one of  my least favorite assignments. For some reason,  it was much more difficult to think of something for this assignment.

Right after the holidays, we all are taking down our decorations. My great aunts had gone sight-seeing in Georgia and South Carolina, and brought back a beautiful mistletoe with a crystal at the bottom.  Well, I was actually taking pictures for a different assignment, but the mistletoe really caught my eye, and I ended up using the photo for this piece.  The writing is the lyrics from the song "Mistletoe" by Colbie Caliet. The point of this assignment was to use your own picture and pair it with text that relates to the image whether it is a poem, lyrics, or quotes along with an interesting page texture. I used soft light to blend my image with my page texture.

Everyday things that we don't realize turn into interesting perspectives of letters when you turn your head and squint your eyes. Some of these letters were really easy to find, and others took me up until the deadline to find.  I was really struggling with fitting my pictures together; my teacher told me it was like a great big puzzle, which I think is the best explanation of it if you choose to arrange your pictures like I did. I really enjoy that collage, almost chaos look without being so chaotic that you cannot distinguish the focus.

A week ago, I started  an "exquisite corpse." The project was broken into 3 parts-one person does the head, another the torso,  and another for the waist down. I created the head using photoshop. Each person individually put all three parts together in InDesign. had many ideas,  but being the animal lover I am, I chose an American Bulldog for the head. I would say my style in this piece is reminiscent of Steven Kroninger's work.  For photoshop and this type of assignment I really like to use the harsh blending and use a bunch of different pieces that may not normally go together.

This is my career poster for art director. Art directors make anywhere from $25,000-$55,000. They oversee mood, style, contrast, conveying message to audience in the entire composition. The link in my poster, in the yellow font, is a great resource for information about this career. I thought the superhero theme would represent this career extremely well, because they have to juggle many different aspects and that's where the idea of having the hero holding the large words.

This is my history timeline for visual communications. I was inspired by treasure maps hence my format of the timeline. No treasure map is complete without a compass, red dashes, and a "x" to mark the spot.

These are all the wordmarks I created for In Focus Photography. I used unity and variety to complete this assignment. In all the wordmarks I avoided using the color black to make my designs more colorful and memorable.

This is the logo I created for Pear Incorporated.  I used contrasting colors to make the design stand out, and used the pear as an instant recognizable image.
